Raining, it’s raining
Seems like there’s more rain with every day
I can’t laugh, I can’t cry
It always seems to hurt the more that way
Lonely, I’m so lonely
These summer days get longer all the time
Sometimes I’m so down
I just can’t seem to get my life to rhyme
You went away so long ago
Don’t know why I want you so
I guess the love of yesterday
Will never fade away
Memories, these memories
Just can’t seem to get you off my mind
You’re so far, yet you’re here
How could I have ever been so blind?

Living in the desert as I have for the last 15 years (Phoenix, AZ), I’ve come to appreciate the rain more than I used to. Although I love the climate in Phoenix most of the time, it’s wonderful to see the rain on those rare occasions when it happens. When it does happen here it tends to be as a violent summer afternoon visitation (often accompanied by a dust storm) rather than a long, slow soaking.
I grew up in south Louisiana where it rains all the time and it’s generally seen as an annoyance. For those in climes where the rain settles in like a guest on your couch that you can’t get rid of, you’ll relate to the sentiment of this song. The rain can get down in your soul.
