About this album…
In a sense, this album has been over thirty years in the making. All the songs you’ll hear were written—at least the first versions—back in the late 1970s. My talented sister, Nancy Tabb Marcantel, recorded some of them on her albums; the rest have been tucked away in the piano stool for decades since I walked away from performing in bands to pursue “real” jobs.
The songs never quite went away. I’d pull them out from time to time over the years to play them for my kids and reconnect with my youthful memories—the musical equivalent of leafing through old photo albums. But they never saw daylight for long.
About a year ago my wife, Tina, said it was time to do a decent recording of the songs so they wouldn’t be lost forever. I mentioned it to my son Andy—a fine musician in his own right—and it was his idea to do a fully produced album. So here it is.
As you might expect, there are plenty of songs about love gone wrong. There are hopeful ones too, though, and as I polished the lyrics for their final production I was sometimes surprised at insights my younger self possessed.
These songs are very personal to me, but the human experience is a common one. I hope you find a connection to your own world through this music and that you have fun doing it. And thanks for sharing All My Yesterdays with me.
